Keats, Ezra Jack. The Snowy Day. Ill. by Ezra Jack Keats. Puffin Books, 1976. ISBN 9780758700278
This timeless classic begins with a young boy named Peter waking up to his neighborhood covered with a fresh layer of snow. As soon as he can, he gears up for the snowy day and stands, with arms open, in awe of the mountains of snow pushed to the side, to make a path. The story progresses as he experiences different feelings, sounds, and sights of a snowy day in his neighborhood while he makes his own marks on his trail. The day culminates with an attempt to store away a snowball as a keepsake in his pocket. He goes through his nightly routine only to go to bed sad, as he finds out his keepsake is gone. After dreaming about how his keepsake melted, he is pleasantly surprised by the mounds of snow, still available for him and a friend to experience when he wakes up the next day.
